Swimmers shine at sprint meet

Carn Brea Swimming Club members shone in the annual Western Counties Sprint Meet 2006.

This annual meet which was hosted in Gloucester's GL1 leisure centre really suited club members Just three members attended this high-level meet, however, and although limited in numbers CBSC were not limited in success.

David Studley, the male club captain, beat four out of his fivepersonal best times.

Eleanor Gordon mirrored this enormous achievement smashing most of her previous best times.

Angus Bailey shone in the men's 50m butterfly, not only winning his age group, but also securing the overall win in this, his best event.

Full results from the day: Angus Bailey 16 years 1st 50m butterfly, 27.24; 4th, 50m freestyle, 26.26; 4th, 50m backstroke 31.80; 5th, 100Im 1:07.08; 10th, 50m breaststroke, 38.08. Angus finished in fifth place overall in the boys 16 years age group.

David Studley 18 years 2nd, 50m butterfly, 28.89; 5th, 50m freestyle, 27.03; 5th, 100IM, 1:08.83; 6th, 50m breaststroke, 36.13; 7th, 50m backstroke, 32.72. David finished in joint fifth place overall in the boys 18 years age group.

Eleanor Gordon 14 years 1st, 50m breaststroke, 37.79; 4th, 50m freestyle, 29.97; 6th, 100IM 1:17.11; 8th, 50m butterfly, 34.88; 14th, 50m backstroke, 36.95. Eleanor finished in sixth place overall in the girls 14 years age group.

Looking at how these swims effect Cornwall, western region and national rankings Angus Bailey is now ranked first in the boys 16 years age group in Cornwall across all of the following events: 50m butterfly, 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 100m butterfly, 200m butterfly. He is also ranked fourth in the western region and seventh nationally in the 50m butterfly event.

David Studley is now Cornwall's number one 18 year old across the following events: 50m, 100m and 200m fly and 100m individual medley. He is also seventh in the western region for the 50m butterfly.

Eleanor Gordon is ranked first in the girl's 14 years age group within Cornwall, eighth in the western region and top 50 nationally in the 50m breaststroke event. Eleanor is also second in the county for 50m the freestyle event.
