What did we get for £4.2 million?

Surely someone can help Ken?

Again I find a shame happening in Falmouth. A man who did his bit and more for England in her time of need. Namely Mr Kenny Rowe, thrown out on the garbage heap to roam the streets of Truro for two months and contracted pneumonia which put him in the Royal Cornwall Hospital.  more...

Restore town to former position

As a lifelong resident of Redruth I congratulate the CPR team for their enthusiasm and vision expressed in their recently published Action Plan for the area. However, a number of references to Redruth as being a cultural and artistic centre, together with "nice shopping" and Camborne as being "an in-town shopping centre for the sub region" would tend to raise a question over the future role of Redruth insofar as shoppers are concerned.  more...

St Keverne celebrates band season success

Individual achievement and group success over the past year were celebrated at St Keverne Band's annual presentation evening on Saturday. Top of the list of successes was the band's fundraising for charity during 2003, which amounted to an impressive £20,000. In addition to that sum, funds have continued to come in from the sale of the band's Joyful Jubilee CD, commissioned and presented to the Queen to mark the Golden Jubilee in 2002. Proceeds from the CD were presented to charity on Saturday, with representatives from CRUSE bereavement care, the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution and SSAFA Forces Help attending the presentation evening to receive their cheques, and present awards to the players. Two of the Queen's other nominated charities in Cornwall also received donations. Band manager Alan Retallack said: "The band has had another extremely busy year, with many high-profile concerts, a tour of Germany and a good win at Bugle contest. "We are delighted to have raised over £20,000 for charities in 2003. We wanted to give something back to Cornwall for all the help we received in getting to Canada in 2001, and hopefully this is a step towards doing that." Mr Retallack said the band was looking ahead to another busy year, with the regional championships coming up on Saturday and numerous concerts and local events, plus a trip to Ireland. The evening concluded with a disco and refreshments at the bandroom.  more...
